Chief
L.F. Scrubby" McDaris joined the Cleveland Fire Department on June 2,
1902 at age 15, and was named Fire Chief in 1929. He held the office of
Chief for 40 years before retiring in February of 1969 at age 81.
He served some 67 years with the Fire department - the last 40 as Chief
with his tenure being noted as one of the longest in the nation. During
Chief McDaris's tenure there had been no serious injuries or loss of life
and upon his retirement Governor Buford Ellington took note of this by
sending the Chief a personal note of congratulations. |
